Preparation of the Injection Moulded Polymeric Parts to Measure the Residual Stress
Abstract
Polymeric materials are nowadays widely employed as much for the manufacturing of a lot of daily objects as in the high-tech sector. These materials are well known for the extremely complex behavior strongly depending on the time and the temperature. The study of the phenomena appearing during a test on polymers needs a correct understanding of the mechanical behavior. This paper presents the preparation of the three different used plastics to measure the residual stresses, using strain gauge rosette. To measure the residual stress, first we have to determine the elastic constants. Tensile elongation and tensile modulus measurements are among the most important indications of strength in a material and are the most widely specified properties of plastic materials.
